I’m John, from the USA. I’m currently fighting stage 4 lung cancer. I noticed pain when coughing or breathing deeply.
Since then, I’ve had a pneumonectomy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy.
I had pain when coughing or breathing deeply. After hearing that I had stage 4 lung cancer, I sought a second opinion as well, wanting a more experienced doctor.
I felt mostly sad at the time. I felt grief, emptiness and powerlessness.
I made the following changes to my lifestyle:
- Started eating healthier every day
- Reduced my smoking
My doctor recommended a
- Pneumonectomy
- Chemotherapy
- Radiotherapy
- Immunotherapy
After my own research and doctor’s recommendation, we went for the
I also relied on nutritional supplements. After deciding on my treatment, things made me angry, anxious, discouraged and scared.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t afford my treatment, so I had to stop.
The worst side effects for me were:
- Fatigue
- Nausea
- Vomiting
To manage them, I relied on improving my diet and self-medication.
I still stuck to eating better and avoiding smoking. Since discovering my cancer, I spend twice as much time with my two kids as I used to previously.
I don’t have plans, spending time together is all. For myself, I plan to settle my will with my family lawyer. There are no big dreams. I just want to spend time together with my kids, tell them I love them.
I’m not afraid of dying. Instead, I’m more afraid of leaving my family behind with nothing. To deal with it, I plan to meet with my family lawyer to settle my will and finances.
Now, I feel the same as before.
To others, I would say: “Hopefully your situation is better than mine, and you can fight cancer.”
