I'm A.R.M., a colorectal cancer survivor.
My journey began with poor appetite and weight loss, which made me seek a medical explanation for my condition. I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer less than a year ago. My treatment included multiple surgeries and chemotherapy, and I'm now in remission.
It all started when I found myself not eating well and losing weight, which led me to seek medical help. Eventually, I received a diagnosis of stage 3 colorectal cancer.
When I first received the news, fear and sadness washed over me. At that moment, I recall feeling worried and grief-stricken.
The most significant change I made to my lifestyle after diagnosis was in terms of my nutrition and diet. I began eating healthier more often and adhering to this diet three to five days a week.
Upon receiving my diagnosis, my treatment journey was laid out for me by my doctors. The recommended treatment plans were clear.
- Partial Colectomy
- Polypectomy
- Partial Proctectomy
Non-surgical treatment:
Trusting in my doctors' expertise, I proceeded with these options. Finalizing my treatment plan, I felt an overwhelming sense of hope, relief and motivation.
The journey through treatment was not without its challenges. Fatigue, hand and foot syndrome, and nausea and vomiting plagued me. But through prescribed medication, I managed these side effects as best I could.
Since starting treatment, my lifestyle has changed drastically in that I exercise more frequently.
Throughout my journey with cancer and amidst all the change, my relationships and communication with my loved ones have remained the same. Looking ahead, I don't have any significant plans for the future.
With regards to my personal aspirations, I dream of helping others and engaging in humanitarian projects.
Similarly, my desire to provide for my 3 children and see them lead a happy life remains a central motivation.
Throughout my journey, my biggest fear was the spread of the cancer. To overcome this, I pursued full treatment and left the rest to Allah (God).
Now that it's been some time since I was first diagnosed, I feel a sense of optimism, confidence and courage.
To anyone walking this path, my advice is simple: Take and do the treatment and ask for a cure from the Almighty.
