Hi, I'm Tia, a breast cancer survivor.
My journey began with an unintended discovery during a routine health examination that led to a stage 1 breast cancer diagnosis over 3 years ago. A mobile mammogram revealed a tumor. After rigorous treatment, I am now in remission and no longer on medication.
Grateful for the support and care received, I'm embracing life beyond cancer.
After discovering a tumor during a mobile mammogram, I opted for a second opinion at a breast specialist clinic. The doctor, a renowned expert, offered valuable insights, confirming the initial diagnosis. Despite being asymptomatic, the decision to consult a reputable doctor gave me a sense of assurance and cleared any doubts about the cancer diagnosis.
Upon learning about my diagnosis, I felt overwhelmed and frightened.
Though the doctor informed me that the 5-year survival rate for stage 1 breast cancer is 90%, the diagnosis still left me feeling nervous and helpless initially. Yet, amidst the fear, I found the strength to confront the journey ahead.
Post-diagnosis, I increased my exercise by 50%, incorporating a more active lifestyle into my routine. Additionally, my diet underwent a positive shift, and I embraced healthier choices every day of the week.
These lifestyle adjustments not only supported my physical well-being but also played a crucial role in preparing for and enduring the challenges of treatment.
I adhered to the recommended plan from my oncologist. I meticulously considered each surgery recommendation, such as mastectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy.
With my doctor's advice, I opted against further lymph node removal, as the biopsy indicated no spread. Alongside conventional treatments, I explored alternative avenues, incorporating nutritional supplements as part of the treatment remedy.
Facing my treatment decisions stirred a mix of emotions. I proceeded with treatment with a sense of cautious optimism.
Fatigue and pain were part of the aftermath of treatment. Coping involved improving nutrition intake and relying on prescribed medications, a necessary effort in the pursuit of recovery.
I communicated more frequently with my parents after being diagnosed with cancer, which was a source of crucial support. However, my sexual relationship with my partner dwindled.
Amidst my health challenges, my husband and I embraced the present; we are currently enjoying a holiday together in Germany.
I'm excited to embark on a new job this year, embracing fresh opportunities. My motivation stems from a simple desire: to live healthily and without pain. My dreams revolve around caring for my parents and husband, ensuring their well-being and happiness.
My biggest fear was the thought of cancer recurrence, especially spreading to my lymph nodes. The fear of post-surgery pain added to the anxiety. I combat it by seeking solace in my support group and seeking guidance from my doctor during follow-ups.
I'm feeling optimistic, hopeful and thankful. Catching my cancer at stage 1 fills me with gratitude and a sense of luck. It's a reminder of the importance of early detection.
Hopefully cancer is just a small part of your life. Spend your time with loved ones.
