I'm Gayna. I was first diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in 2023. I am now free of cancer.
It all started with a suspicious symptom—flattening of the underside of my left breast. After seeking medical advice, I was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer.
I felt neutral when I received the news of my cancer diagnosis.
I made changes to my diet, opting for a healthier one, 3 to 5 days a week.
My treatment journey involved a lumpectomy, radiation therapy, and hormone therapy, following my doctor's recommendation.
I felt really good after deciding my treatment options. I was happy, relieved, motivated and hopeful. Thankfully, I did not have financial difficulties because of my cancer treatment.
Despite experiencing side effects like fatigue, weight fluctuations, and skin reddening, I was able to manage them with improved nutrition and prescribed medication.
Since treatment, I've made permanent changes to my lifestyle, focusing on diet and exercise. I now eat healthier most days and exercise more regularly. Keeping in touch with my parents has always been important, and that hasn't changed since my diagnosis. Looking ahead, I plan to have lots of travel and family time. My goal for myself is to keep well, travel, and have fun.
After facing this trial, I’m looking to keep well and enjoy life.
My biggest fear throughout this journey was not beating (cancer). To overcome it, I've been talking to friends and family about my feelings and struggles.
At this stage of my journey, I feel optimistic and thankful that I was able to overcome the challenges that I’ve faced.
For those on their own cancer journey, I'd say, "Keep a positive mind if possible."
