Hello, I’m Martha, a stay-at-home mother of two.
I’m now in remission after having stage 3 breast cancer.
I found out I had cancer when I went in for a breast ultrasound.
After my diagnosis, I felt:
- Worried but helpless
- Grief and worthless
- Vulnerable and powerless
After the news, I tried to eat healthier every day.
After my doctors’ recommendation, I opted to do a mastectomy, as well as chemo and radiotherapy.
I felt a little angry, anxious and discouraged.
In terms of side effects, the ones that affected me the most were: hair loss, appetite loss, vomiting — but I managed on my own, without further medication.
Unfortunately, I did have some difficulties as there was no financial settlement for my treatment.
I tried my best to commit to eating healthier, and spent more time with my kids.
I don’t have any plans in the next few years. My biggest dream is to follow Christ. With my loved ones, I want to enjoy as much time as possible.
It was my treatment failing. To deal with it, I tried my best to remember the word of God.
Now, I feel confident and thankful.
To others, I would say: “This is not the end, it is the beginning of a new life holding hands with our God.”
