Hi, I’m Jenny, a breast cancer survivor. Diagnosed at Stage 2 in June 2020, I experienced several treatments, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and hormone therapy.
It all started back in June 2020. During a routine health examination, a hard lump in my breast was felt. I was eventually diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer.
After the diagnosis, my life took a turn. One of the significant changes I made was in my nutrition and diet. I started eating healthier meals 3 to 5 days a week.
The thought of treatment side effects made me fearful. But amidst the fear, there was a spark of optimism. I still felt courageous.
I sought a second opinion, encouraged by a friend who suggested I get another perspective.
After my diagnosis, the doctors recommended a comprehensive treatment plan for me. They suggested
- breast-conserving surgery: lumpectomy (removal of tumor)
- chemotherapy
- radiation therapy
- hormone therapy
I did seek a second opinion because I wanted to know more about my options.
Eventually, I opted for all of the treatments recommended to me initially, based on my doctor's recommendation.
When I decided on my treatment plan, I had mixed emotions. I felt somewhat hopeful.
Now, I'm in remission but still taking medication.
The side effects that affected me the most were hair loss, nausea, and vomiting.
To manage these side effects, I focused on improving my nutrition. Fortunately, I didn't face any financial difficulties due to the treatment plans.
Since my treatment began, there have been some permanent changes in my lifestyle. The most significant change has been my focus on nutrition and diet. I made a conscious effort to eat healthier meals several days a week.
Despite the challenges of cancer treatment, I continue to visit my parents 3 times a week and hang out with my children at least once a week. We also continue to take at least one family trip a year.
Looking ahead, I've made some plans for myself and my family over the next couple of years. For my family, I'm planning a family trip. For myself, I'm aiming for financial and personal freedom.
My biggest dream is to give my family a good life. Along with that, I dream of spending quality time with my loved ones and traveling together.
Throughout my journey to recovery, my biggest fear was cancer recurrence or metastasis.
To overcome this fear, I tried to focus on not overthinking and boosting my immune system.
Some time has passed since I was diagnosed with cancer. Nowadays I feel courageous, optimistic and thankful .
"Face any treatment process with courage and optimism".
